Short update...

My dad is in St. V's with a urinary tract infection. He had been having symptoms for a few days then yesterday these symptoms became worse. Perhaps the UTI could have been the culprit of some or most of his back pain. Nursing thinks he'll be there 2-3 days. At the time of this post my dad says he's glad to be in the right place to be properly treated & is looking forward to getting over this hump.

There will be no rest for the weary as wound care had already been in this morning, ortho was going to be called, PT will be in & urology was to be consulted.

I will post again once I know more.

  1. Thanks for the update, Kay. Were they concerned about this and that is why they took out the catheter? As you know from experience with your mom this is common. I'm sure all the various people will find him and he will have no rest. I'm glad he is there where they can keep an eye on the infection.

  2. I think they were concerned he would get an infection, but they didn't think he had one. Some of the symptoms were there, but after voicing our concerns were told everything was "okay". People don't start moving until things are out of control. Even then we had to push it along. Grrrr the health care system...

  3. I know what you're going through as my Mom was prone to UTIs. The catheter can be a real culprit here, but the alternative may be something your dad would strongly object to. Hope his therapy gets back on trck soon.
