Today my dad took 2 rounds of approximately 23 good steps using the walker. His steps were much more complete steps where earlier in the week they were shuffles. He is working on transporting himself from the bed to the chair, chair to exercise bike, chair to walker, chair to toilet (sorry folks:), etc. This is huge progress in the life of rehabbing. He gets a little discouraged at the s-l-o-w-ness of it all, but feels/looks good & appreciates that he is getting better everyday!

He is definitely "on" for Sunday's outing, then Christmas, then dinner with his siblings.

Thank you God!

  2. Once he has gotten started I know how determined he can be. That is good. Being able to get himself from place to place on his own is such a big step and gives him more independance.

Kay I'm glad he will make it for Sunday. I'm sure he is too. He and Tom were friends for as long as I can remember.

You sure will have a great Christmas this year. I'm sure he is looking forward to it. Will Kristie be able to come into town?

I'm looking forward to out siblings annual dinner at Christmas time. It is so great that he will be part of it.

  4. Hi Aunt Janet!

Today he took 55 steps on the first round then 68 steps the second round. The therapist worked with him getting into/out of my Rav4. He will rest better just knowing for sure he can do that with minimal assistance. He is still not able to get up on his own, so the independence is not quite there, but not far away either.

Kristie will not be home for Christmas, but will be him the last week of January. I will be driving my dad to your sibling dinner which will be another very exciting & memorable time. I am happy I'll be able to see you all!

Have a safe drive home & I'll see you soon!

  5. Kay I talked to your dad tonight. He sounds great. He said everyone is telling how well he is doing but said he is impatient! Why doesn't that surprise me. He also said he can just about dress himself. He told me about getting into and out of your car. Good idea for a practice run. He seems to be looking forward to events coming up. I'm glad you will be coming with him to the dinner on Wednesday. I hope Joe can come too.
