Hello Blog Readers,
It's time for a weekly follow up. My dad is doing really, really good, both mentally and physically. The cardiology visit went well on Wednesday. Dr. Bingle did not feel my dad has any serious cardiac issues going on, that the initial low blood pressure readings were due to the stress ulcer and the continued low readings were due to too much medication. He will follow up with Dr. Bingle in 3 months (once he is actively moving around) just to be sure everything is still OK.
Physical therapy is doing wonders for my dad. He is now able to "walk" while sitting. When he does this he is actually picking each leg up fully, trying to reprogram the muscles in preparation for the day he can step down & begin to walk again. There has been lot of improvement with range of motion in his knees & ankles. He also, can now scootch himself up in bed with his upper body after placing the lower end of the bed on incline. One must be creative!!
Next Thursday is going to be a BIG day. That is the orthopaedic doctor visit at which time the doctor will x-ray all fractured/healing areas and determine whether or not my dad can start placing weight on his left leg & left forearm. Please pray!!! The right leg is not far behind. Once he reaches that goal, the caregivers at Heartland are sure my dad will walk out the door!!
At this pace, we are hopeful my dad will be able to come home for the afternoon on Thanksgiving. He is, in fact, already making plans!
I thank you again for your continued prayers, visits, phone calls & cards:) Regardless of how you have reached out, each one has helped brighten my dad's day & encouraged him through this long road to recovery.
I am so happy to hear that your Dad's progress is just speeding along. What a wonderful Thanksgiving all of you will have if he can make it home. In case they don't want to release him fully, perhaps you can arrange to ask for a transport wheelchair from the rehab facility and let him come home for a Thanksgiving visit.

Wonderful news Kay. I am amazed at what he is able to do. It will be wonderful for him to spend Thanksgiving with all of you. I know way back when, he was talking about coming home by Thanksgiving and being in his own house. I thought that could not happen. BUT it looks like he will be able to spend it with all of you. TERRIFIC!!!! I will hope and pray that he will be able to begin putting weight on his left leg and arm. I'm glad the cardiologist meeting went well. I'm also glad Dr. Bingle is staying on top of things heart wise.
ReplyDeleteI really cannot believe the progress he has made. He certainly deserves an A+ on the effort he has given.
This is wonderful news!!!!!!!! He will be at the Thanksgiving table for sure.
