Good Tuesday update

  1. A little before 2:00 this afternoon they removed the vent from Tip. They ran tests first to make sure he would be breathing on his own. He passed the tests with flying colors! Now he can talk. It's a little scratchy and mumbled but he can communicate with us. They have cut his sedatives in half. If all goes well he might have a little food this evening. He doesn't remember the accident so Kay told him about it. He also didn't realize 8 days had gone by since the accident. I don't think he understands a lot of what he was told but it is beginning to sink in. I'm sure he'll have lots of questions as his mind clears and he gets stronger. It is good to see some of the tubes taken off.

  1. Good news that he's off the ventilator. He's probably lucky he doesn't remember too much. He will have to cope with a lot once he becomes more aware. It sounds like he's on the mend.

  2. He may never remember some of the accident.

I still after 35 years have holes in my memory of an accident I was in. Even though I crawled out of the wreck and up the hill to the police car on my own, I still after 35 years have no memory of that part.

I'm glad he is off the ventilator, I hated that part after me surgery.

  4. Glad to hear your brother is off the ventilator and that he's coming around. How disorienting it must be to have this news delivered to him about the accident. It must've been a joyful experience to hear him speak again. I wish him the best.
